WISHING WELLS
SOCIETY
Box 31 St. Andrews
Nova Scotia, B0H 1X0
Wishing Wells is now a REGISTERED CHARITY, so tax receipts will be issued for all donations. (85100 5728 0001)
Our mission is to provide financial assistance where needed, for sustainable water systems to improve the quality of life for rural communities, ensuring projects are culturally, socially, environmentally and economically appropriate at the local level.
- Wishing Wells Society is a continuation of man's work - Fr. Bonnie Mendes, who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the poor in India and died suddenly in 1998. In 2000, Wishing Wells held its first fundraising concert in memory of him and we funded a village well in Karivde, India.
- Since 2000, a total of ten village well or irrigation pond projects have been provided in India, Nigeria, and Haiti.
- These projects have a tremendous positive impact on the: health of the people, women and children who carry the water and the ability to grow a second crop in the dry season.
- Fundraising activities include: an annual variety concert, collection of refundable drink containers, sale of hand-painted blank cards, and donation cards.
- Our website features Fr. Bonnie's bio, our project proposal requirements, project photos, concert photos, board of directors and more.
Haiti Update
We had a few emails from Elizabeth Clackler in Haiti to update us on the situation there:
Wanted to let you know that the house in Malou where the well was dug went flat during the earthquake. It also served as a church and school. Many people have come to sleep in their yard (about 50 last I heard). They are so thankful for the well, as it truly is a blessing to them. They are able to have drinking water through all of this. Thanks to God and to Wishing Wells.
Blessings! Elizabeth Clackler.
