   The Monsignor Hugh MacPherson Council

(# 14596)

Serving the parishes of St. Francis DeSales (Giant’s Lake ), Immaculate Conception (Heatherton), and St. Andrews (St. Andrews), NS, Canada

The Knight’s of Columbus are a fraternal benefit society made up of Catholic gentlemen who have the simple desire to serve God and their community better. Founded by the Venerable Servant of God, Fr. Michael McGivney in 1882 to assist widows and orphans, and others in need, in the Catholic community, they have grown over the years to “13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.”

Our council is the “baby” and perhaps the smallest in Nova Scotia. Even so, we have been very active over the last year and a half since our forming. Indeed our council raised the most of any council in Nova Scotia in support of Haiti earthquake victims – a testament to the spirit of hard work and unity of our communities. Our activities in the past year include:

·        Haiti Earthquake Benefit ConcertFree Throw - Peter and George.jpg

·        Development of a hiking trail in partnership with the local 4-H

·        Development of a fire plan for local buildings, starting with the church

·        Participation in the local curling Funspiel

·        Participation in the Live Nativity Scene at St. Ninian’s Cathedral

·        Participation at Remembrance Day and Highland Games parades
